I am blogging is to improve my writing skills. The only way I can improve my writing skills is to write.
Tips on how I started the habit of blogging and ideas on how you can start a new habit.
~ Know Your Why
Everything you do starts with a strong why. My WHY to blog – It is important to improve my writing skills.
~ Schedule It, Schedule It, Schedule It
This is important, and it was a must I had to make it a priority. I have made it a point to sit down every morning for 10 – 15 minutes and write. This has evolved from being unscheduled / random to scheduling it and marking it as done.
~ Details Don’t Matter
When I was writing the first post something stressed me. I worried about how long it was, grammar errors and many other things that were stopping me. I had to force myself not to worry about the details.
It doesn’t matter. What matters is getting started and doing it and creating the habit of doing it.
Focus on what matters not the details.
Remember, you can always go back and improve it.
~ Be Honest With Yourself
Once I started I had to be honest with myself. I had to acknowledge that my writing skills could improve. They are not shit but I am not Shakespeare either. Once I could identify where I needed help I could find help i.e. resources.
~ Find Resources
After I was honest with myself and identified where I needed help I could find resources. I knew I needed help and researched writing tools , which led to a great online writing tool Pro-Writing Aid. Finding and using the right tool for the right job makes a huge difference.
